Boys small group camp-out

This is my first attempt at blogging, and I decided to do so because this trip was all about "da boys"! About three weeks ago I took part of my boys group on a camping trip/spiritual adventure and the pictures above are of the boys playing a game Brandon (our youth minister) made up to challenge them to be team-players and to work at figuring out how to cross a mock lava pit using only five stones....needless to say it was quite a site and lots of fun for the participants and the onlookers!

Brandon, in all his great wisdom concocted a swinging rope, so we all took turns swinging over a huge sandpit...a few of us literally bit the dust a couple of times.

We also put the boys on teams and had them try to out-do one another and construct the highest structure out of limbs and branches. Blake and Shayne's structure was questionable and they were leary to go all the way to the top, so Jake and Jake won the competition (mostly due to their feather-wieght body's and not thier ingenious structure building skills)

As a surprise, Brandon decided to get us all working before and after the camping trip, so we stopped by Northern's campus and helped Sam Galvin and the "His House" gang do some fixing up. Our first project was to fix a porch that had sunk down...none of us really knew what we were doing, but with a little instruction and hard work (kind of), we did get the porch back in shape! The crew working even let us help on the roof...not a job for the faint of heart!

All in all the trip was great. The boys had a great time getting to know each other, they were challenged spiritually, and we got to enjoy God's great creation! The morning of the last day we hiked/ran to the top of Hogsback mountain at 5 in the morning to watch a sunset and listen to God. I hope this is the start to alot more fun in years to come!
